What is the SSG Fox program?
The Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) is a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs program. It funds community-based organizations that provide or coordinate suicide prevention services for eligible at-risk Veterans, service members, and their families.
This funding lets us do more of what we already do: bring Veterans and families together in nature, in community, and with people who understand.
Most SSG Fox services are non-clinical and can include peer, family, and innovative approaches, and we help people connect with clinical care when they want it. The program focuses on reaching Veterans who are not yet connected with VA, especially in under-resourced areas.
Our approach is simple. We make the first step easy and give people a good reason to keep showing up. Outdoor challenges, time in nature, and community connection create a setting where support, skills, and resources can really sink in.
$322 million
awarded across five rounds since the program launched in September 2022
200+
community-based organizations funded
49
states, plus DC, tribal lands, and all five inhabited U.S. territories
Because most Veterans who die by suicide aren’t connected with VA health care, community organizations can make a big difference in decreasing Veterans’ suicide risk.
